DESPICABLE ME

v

Despicable Me is another over-the-top computer-animated cartoon that parents will enjoy along with the boys and girls.

There's plenty of action and comedy, thanks to Steve Carell's Gru's ghoulish jokes, which reminded me of Scrooge a bit.

It also has a smart cast of funny characters who help make the whole story work and come together in a way everyone will have a good toon time.

Made for 3-D, Despicable Me features super villain Gru and his army of minions planning "the crime of the century" after new arch-rival Vector steals the Pyramids -- adopting three girls to be used as pawns in his evil plan.

It's cartoon violence, cool gadgets, and heartfelt comedy as Gru must decide between stealing the moon (and saving his reputation) or missing the girls' dance recital.

It's a brilliant change of pace in the world of animation.

Lightbulb!

The movie Despicable Me, starring Steve Carell, is a smartly written animated kid's comedy that starts out looking like it's going to be a story exposing and ridiculing evil creeps.

But the star ends up being a reformable mean man who meets his match when three young little orphaned sisters get involved with his situation.

His adoption of the three lovable girls slowly transforms him.

The lead character is a doctor evil-type super villain who finally gets his cold-cold heart melted by his emotional feelings of fatherhood winning out in the conclusion of the film -- giving this flick a singing, dancing happy ending.
